The second first day of cycling of 2023 ...

2023-09-14

I stayed in Bujalance a very long time because I liked it there. But there was one very annoying thing ...

Mister X, the bartender of the SRC Juventud Artesana obviously "didn't like me" and I have no idea why (not). He never looked me in the face, avoided me, did not like to serve me anything and kept me waiting for as long as he could. Luckily the cook noticed that and she helped by compensating for that (often even double, thank you !).

Finally mister X refused to serve me anything at all and one day later he even refused me to sit at the only table where there is a walloutlet. "That area is for socios only" he stated. After being there without any problem for several weeks.

It is a very long time ago that I experienced someone so non-suitable for his job. I tried to discuss this with the boss but unfortunately he did not respond to my messages. So I Left The Very Next Day, bingo correcto ...

One last look at Bujalance. My Panasonic FZ1000 camera 🖱️ can do this job easily. No crop, just original zoom. It weighs 1 kilo but brought me tons of pleasure !

I choose to cycle a (hopefully) nice and quiet gravelroad to Canete de las Torres and from there to Lopera. That was a succes, there were many very long periods that I did not hear any "artificial" sounds. But also hardly any birds.

The gravelroad to Canete de las Torres. Only one cardriver passed me here in about one hour. He obviously was completely surprised by seeing an 👽 alien cycling on a fully loaded bicycle. So he "forgot" to lower his speed after which I turned into a very dusty alien. Thank you so much !

The Parroquia de la Asuncion church in Caneta de las Torres was open so I took a look.

Just outside town there is a nice bridge to pass the mainroad. It is very wide and it was easy to make the turns.

From Caneta de las Torres on it once more was a beautiful off-road and hardly any sound was to be heared. Accept for the tires on the endless gravel. Only some 1km outside of town I stopped to have a nice rest in the shadow of a building.

Chance is very low to have any shadow in this type of landscape anyway. There are hardly any buildings, and if so they can't be reached because of gates. And of dogs ... And the leaves of olivetrees are to small to give decent shadow. I guess I was at this track for 2h30 and I loved it ! Even the pushing haha.

Very close to Lopera I had marked a camping but it turned out to be abandoned. Shortly after I took a (second) rest in the shadow of a real tree with big leaves. I knew I was just to tired to get up into town but as usual that rest did not really help.

I saw a mechanic working on a tractor and asked for (cold ?) water. But he made clear the water at his workshop was non-drinkable since it was pumped straight up from underground. The question is ofcourse (not) how much pesticides are in it. And I had to push again, all the way up into town. Some 100mts into the first road I had to stop again to rest.

Suddenly a man on a mountainbike stopped right behind me and opened the door of that house. I showed him my bidon and he took it inside to return it filled with wonderful cold water. He pointed to my other bottle and he filled that one also. Then his wife showed up and gave me a very nice and cool package of frutas+leche drink. Thank you so much !

I told the man I was looking for a place to camp, and he reacted as I had hoped for. "Just around the first corner to the left there is a nice parc and camping there is oké." I had marked that spot already so I inspected it. It was a beautiful place and there was a usable watertap so I took the guess nobody would bring me into trouble. But unfortunately the rain did ...

There was rain expected for several hours, starting at next day's afternoon which was an extra reason to cycle today. However, that rain started already at the first evening, when I was relaxing in a cafe. It was actually a storm, and when I returned to the tent I saw it had been lifted over the bags that should have hold it down.

And unfortunately the chair had been blown into the mud and was to dirty to sit on. The friday-afternoon there was rain once more and I took a little (two hours ...) nap in the tent. But the wind and rain woke me up, and this is how the situation then was.

I cycled 23kms with 267vms with a moving average of 7.2kmh and a total average of only 4.1kmh. Todays's YesTrip took me 5h34 in total ...

And this is the interactive map of today's YesTrip.

Now let's have a look in Lopera town.
